Project 365- Day 364: Route 138

December 29 2012

I didn’t have any time for any more photo walkabouts around Québec City before returning to Montreal tonight, but we decided to take my favorite route back along the 138 which runs adjacent to the Saint Lawrence river.

The shot selected for the day’s image was taken at Sainte Anne de la Pérade where there is a large ‘temporary settlement’ of ice fishing huts on the Sainte Anne river. We only got there at dusk and didn’t have any time to scout the area for a good shot location and so ended up just grabbing a shot from the bridge.

There was a lot of pack ice flowing down the river and we managed to make a couple of stops to take some shots of the river and landscape. Unfortunately the day was overcast and the light wasn’t ideal :-(

We returned to a very snow covered Montreal. I hear it will take the city 10 days to remove all the snow…hopefully tomorrow I will have a chance to get some images to share.

Project 365 – Day 363 : Québec City

December 28 2012

Due to a slow internet connection at the hotel, I delayed posting the images from my little trip up to Québec City.

The trip was a lot shorter than I would have liked and didn’t get to visit all the places I wanted on this trip, but I plan to try and visit more during 2013. Being a bit late and trying to catch up on everything, I wasn’t able to put much into the writing on this post, but hope you enjoy a few shots taken around parts of Québec City yesterday.

Project 365 – Day 362: A long drive to a beautiful Québec City under snow

December 27 2012

I read that montreal received a record amount of snow for the 27th December – 45cm. For someone who doesn’t get off the island that much, it probably wasn’t the best day to be driving to Québec City, but the hotel and rental car were reserved so we decided to make a break for it. We ended up pretty much following the storm all the way, at times with visibility almost zero and only able to know where the road was by keeping relatively close to the back of a truck, not really advisable, but better than driving into a tree.

After 5+ hours (the journey normally takes 2.5) we arrived in Québec City and after a nice supper with one of Guylaine’s sisters, we headed to the Hotel Clarendon and took a little walk around the immediate area before heading to the nearby bar.

A new light festival started a few days ago called  QébecAdabra and features a number of illuminated art installations at various points around the city. The one next to our hotel looked particularly nice with the fresh snow.

While we were having supper, as you would expect the snowplough of course passed by and buried the car in the driveway which we then had to ‘dig’ out – thankfully our friends have a snowblower :-)

Project 365 – Day 361: Working off the Christmas calories on Mount Royal

December 26 2012

I thought everyone would be down in the shopping malls snapping up Boxing Day bargains and I would have Mount Royal to myself…but there were a lot of people enjoying another great day despite the cold.

Project 365 – Day 360: Another visit to the Iceberg art installation

December 25 2012

A sign of getting old is the recovery time following a night of partying….today I felt like I was 100. So my grand plan of a Christmas afternoon walk on Mount Royal didn’t happen and the pictures for today didn’t end up being very festive :-(

But I had another excuse for not having much time to photograph today – the need to get home and squeeze the turkey into the oven, which as I type is filling the apartment with a wonderful aroma and is actually helping get my appetite back following a large brunch at the Delta Hotel this morning.

Being close-by at the Quartier des Spectacles, we decided to go and walk around the Iceberg interactive art installation. I did photograph this a few weeks ago at night, but wanted to shoot it again during the day anyway.

Project 365 – Day 359: A snowy Christmas Eve on Parc La Fontaine

December 24 2012

I didn’t have much time to go shooting today which was a shame given that the sun was out for the first time in what seems like ages. I did though manage to take a quick walk around Parc La Fontaine where some people (and local wildlife) had time to enjoy the crisp morning air.
