Project 365 – Day 258: Ship Ahoy, 6 tall ships sail into Montreal

September 14 2012

The 3rd edition of the Tall Ships festival began yesterday with the arrival of 6 ships in the old port of Montreal. I thought I would drop by earlier today to check them out from the quay side. For 10$ you can go aboard each ship, but I was happy just shooting them from the quay. A lot of school kids seemed to be enjoying getting a taste of being a shipmate though.

This year 6 ships made the voyage to Montreal; The Pathfinder, Fair Jeanne, Roter Sand, St Lawrence II, Empire Sandy, and The Peacemaker. When not participating in festivals, the ships are normally being used as training vessels for youth groups and persons interested in learning to sail.

I’d actually forgotten the festival was starting yesterday as I would have much preferred to see the ships under sail on the Saint Lawrence. I intend to see if there is a specific time when they will be departing, and may try to catch them then. Also, if I’m able to, I hope to try and get doen there in the evening to grab some night shots of the boats lit up against the Montreal skyline.

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.

  1. Great shots! I have some myself of the ship’s arrival, but couldn’t manage to find the best spot, too much people…Also, it wasn’t the best time of the day (noon) to shoot, awful light on some pics…I love yours and hope to see some night shots!

    • I forgot all about them arriving, but from what you say it probably it would have been tough getting a good spot…Ile Sainte Hélène would probably be best spot. I plan heading down tonight to grab some night shots and I hear there will be fireworks at 9 🙂
